EDUCATION Public education in the Woodland area is provided by the Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) from kindergarten through high school. The WJUSD embraces the standards and accountability focus of the school improvement efforts of California and the nation. WJUSD is proud of its students’ successes in exemplary programs that include academic decathlon, agriculture, art, athletics, drama, home/health services, music, student leadership and student publications. These programs have received regional, state and national recognition.
The Chamber’s Business Education Committee is actively promoting the Yolo Youth Council’s "Work Ready Certificate" program. High school students must demonstrate many work-ready skills and Woodland businesses are encouraged to expect entry-level local job applicants to present their certificates as a desired item in the application process. WJUSD’s Adult School provides continuing education through a wide offering of courses designed to meet the needs of students preparing to complete a four-year college education or for students needing certification or career skills programs. Private schooling is also available in the Woodland area through Holy Rosary Academy, Woodland Christian School, Montessori School, Seventh-Day Adventist School, the Einstein Center and the Huntington Learning Center. The Yolo County Office of Education provides leadership and coordination to many aspects of public education for all districts in the County of Yolo, including special education, educational technology, and alternative programs for at-risk students and business services support. Woodland also enjoys the proximity of four additional community colleges, two full university campuses, several college satellite centers and vocational schools. As society demands higher skill levels, educational opportunity in Woodland is meeting the challenge. For further information go to
Educational opportunities are also excellent in Yolo County with one of the nation’s top public research universities, UC Davis. Today more than 30,000 of the brightest, most diverse and well-rounded students in the nation are studying at UC Davis. A typical student might spend the morning experimenting in a chemistry lab, the afternoon playing lacrosse and the evening performing on the stage of the Mondavi Center. WOODLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE As a newly accredited independent campus of the Yuba Community College District, Woodland Community College provides a wide variety of classes and job training activities for the local region, which includes all of Colusa County. Many students take advantage of the high quality and affordable cost of instruction at Woodland Community College to achieve an Associate Degree or Certificate, or to transfer to four-year institutions.
